African Queen is a family heirloom from Jack Maderis of North Carolina in 1986. Jack’s family had cultivated African Queen for generations, African Queen may have come directly to the Carolinas with British colonists or with slaves from the Caribbean.
I have yet to encounter anyone that didn’t rave about this tomato. It ends up on most gardeners must grow list every year. Giant crack free, deep jade pink monsters. Very productive and produce 1-1.5 lb tomatoes. A deep rich flavor. A tomato growers tomato.
